I'm first questioning how these items got there. Where there sweat shops making those products? Or was it passed down donated goods? The way things are being passed around the whole world is pretty amazing. If these were donated goods I'm hoping these items were not purchased and only given to them. Regardless what the item said, it was good they had shoes, shirts, and shade. I think Americanization is a little different than globalization because Americans tend to buy things they do not need, causing Americanization.
Macdonaldization is the growth of fast food restaurants around the whole world. Influencing global commercialism and obesity. In the presentation today, Starbucks and McDonald were used as examples of these trends.
Pessimistic and Optimistic hyperglobalizers are the views of globalization. the optimist would obviously see the positive things about globalization

Critiquing a data article
- In this study there were 99 participants
-The section begins with a detailed description of the purpose of this research. Who will be in this research, details about the participants, and the theory of the results.
-It's pretty well organized. I understood the transition and understood why it was organized that way.
-The theme was do psychology classes have an impact on students dealing with social issues such as racism and homphobia.
-The study was based off of 3 phychology courses and the data was supported by the results.
-The high number of partisipants was what really stood out.

My progress
I have partisipants and already have scheduled interviews. This has been a little hard because I have no car and trying to do all of this with the little time I have. By Tuesday I will have some information, and be completly done by Thursday.
Sharing resumes
My partner's resume had a very good description of his skills and abilities. The position applying for was a probation officer. There were some good descriptions but I felt some of his experiences did not match what he was applying for. If there were more things that related to the position then he would have a better chance to get hired.
The descriptions were short and simple. Some may use their descriptions too much and the employer may get discuraged.
The only thing to improve is to make the resume more job-related.

To do with my major.
My major is under Communication. there is a huge list of things I can do with this major. I am currently majoring in Visual Communication meaning all the visuals in the paper/magazine/computer/ and even graphic novels. I am also part of the the media so this opens up more doors of opportunities.
Education Equality
On the first question, i didn't find the quote to be problematic. But if we really wanted to break it down, using the word "all" may be a problem. Because the word implies that all may want to be treated normally, but not all of them may have said it. Thus making this an assumption.
I think the tone is more concerned than angry. The author clearly shows interest in the topic and knowledge. There was the use of "I" a lot and adjectives showing concern on the topic.

Cambodia Trafficking
Damn. This was a very interesting story. Articles like these are complete eye-openers, it makes you truly appreciate what you have. After reading this article I began to think of my own life and thought of things people in the U.S. take for granted. Thus making this article more impacting. What if our government do these kinds of things behind closed doors? All he statistics the author used made this story more impacting and more disturbing. AH! when this kind of stuff happens in the U.S. it's a huge issue, but these lames are doing in under the government's knowledge! Very disgusting. The article also included some opinions, (or it sounded like opinions) and there was nothing wrong with that. Considering how insane the topic was, the touch of opinions are welcomed. These things need to be eliminated. The worst things in life should never exist, people need to have a conscious. :( its sad really.
Breaking the Code
Practice makes perfect, this is one of the main things i gathered from the activity. Reading the article to assist my research project is also another great thing about it. The paper we analyzed had some pretty good points and arguments. The paper could of used more unity and transitions. This activity also made me thing of my research project, thus avoiding some of the mistakes they made.

Finding your voice
My way of showing my voice in a paper would be by using the word "I." This could be the simplest way of doing so because it clearly states it's about me. Another way I chould show it's my voice would be by having a certain style of words I use, specialy on an argumentative essay.
A way I can discover my own voice is by writting a lot of papers. Looking for similarities and writing styles can determine this.
Expose the unexposed, expand your mind rather than repeating yourself what you already know. But some topics can be broader than you originaly thought. For example, everybody knows Clumbus discovered America

Narrative on Social Diversity and Multiculturalism
Both of these terms are very similar in my opinion. Social diversity can be defined as the diversity of our society such as race, religion, and culture. The United States can be a great example of this definition since this is a country of many inhabitants . Multiculturalism is just the traditions and blue prints of a group of people. This definition is more in depth since it deals only with culture. Things like food, area, traditions, hobbies. and lifestyles. Social diversity is very important because if everybody can understand each others lifestyles then there will be a better relationship amongst all of us. I believe the most interesting is race. There is still separation amongst us humans, this separation makes hate. Hate that will be passed on from this generation to the next.
There are many social and political figures that will influence, but for me it was my mother. My mother has taught me that people are different and will not get along. But we don't have to be like them we could be different and ignore the hate. In my opinion my mother taught us the best she could, though she wasn't there for us all the time. Now that we are older we are very thankful how we were raised. In high school my friends and i were a very diverse group. During lunch the whole school would be categorized football players, cheerleaders, the blacks, the latinos, the actors, the whites, the nerds, the asians, the soccer players, the goths, the skaters. But not us. We were very diverse with nerds, actors, skaters, blacks, whites, football players, latinos, it was great! I thought we had a mutual understanding and didn't have problems like the blacks and latinos. Ignore all that and we could coexist happily.
Racial discrimination is the most interesting for me. Today's people follow stereotypes, base those stereotypes on all races. Not all mexicans are lazy, not all blacks love chicken, not all whites are racist. Those who look different should not be considered less human. This issue has been going on through out our history and must be stopped. There have been wars and genocides because of race. There are racial superiority groups, segregation, and ignorance. This problem may never go away, but it starts with each individual. We pass this to our kids and their kids until we eliminate race discrimination. This issue effect me because I am romantically in love with a girl who is "white." There is no acceptance on her side because I am brown. Not all "mexicans" are assholes and lazy, I pray for acceptance.

8/26/10
1) Reading and writing has not always been my best topics, but I am a journalism major. I don't do both often just because I play games. Only when school is in session is when these materials kick in. Even outside of school i rarely do that social network thing. I'm a comic book fan but haven't been reading lately.
2) The introduction is always the worst part. Sometimes the introduction comes naturally but it sucks when I'm stuck in the introduction. I need to improve my spelling and my overall writing ability. Though I have improved my writing since I began my journalism interest, I still feel I'm not a great writer. I must improve but I know there is a huge possibility of my becoming a better writer.
3) Hahaha I would say my genre are comic books. Because of my financial situation I cannot keep up with the new comic books. I don't think the writing has had an influence on my writing. connection between reading and writing?
4) The research should not be all that hard. We get to chose things that we find interesting, or even have an experience with. Everybody goes through tough times so this research project should be pretty simple. These are dealing with social issues and if we are a part of this society there are bound to be issues we can relate to.
5) I do have an idea of what I want to write about. There are things in my life that must be kept a secret, but this project will allow me to let some of these secrets out. My topic will be dealing with race. This is an interesting topic since I am currently dealing with it now. There is major interest because there is an "immigration issue" going on today that is motivated by race.
6) I will interview and do some research. I have some ideas of what to do, but once there is more information about the project then I will definitely know. There will be a lot of interviewing of the community, from different kinds of people.

An intro
I am a Journalism major from California. Representing the west coast. I hope to have fun in this class and hope it's not too hard. Even though a lot of people do not like the winter, I am a big fan of the cold and look forward for my first christmas in Illinois.
